“I know that it’s been almost two weeks since summer camp ended, but a late update is better than no update at all.”

Anyway, a lot of cool and exciting things happened during camp, such as the Wolves patrol of our own troop, temporarily lead by Noah Wallace, winning the Sasquatch Hunting Game, which was a game that everyone in the camp participated in, and that lasted a few hours. There were other events such as the Iron Chef competition, but no one in our troop won anything in that event. Kethan had his birthday during summer camp, and therefore Mr. Steve Housley decided to bring in some cupcakes and cookies in his return so that the whole troop could celebrate it.

There were also some very minor problems that everyone got through in the end. Minor problems such as KP and some of the food being too spicy. There was also an event in which one of our own scouts was threatened to be kidnapped while everyone else was asleep. A few of the other scouts decided to take action and camped right in front of Stevie’s cot so that he would feel a little safer. Before this however, the older scouts were threatening to hose down Stevie and the other little scouts if they didn’t take a shower. Thankfully, Stevie took one on Thursday.

I think everyone had a good time in summer camp. If not, why not? Post a comment. Troop 1970 went to Camp Rodney in North East, Maryland for their 2008 summer camp. The camp sits on the Chesapeake so activities ranged from sailing to wood carving, from nature walks to canoeing outposts.

Triple Eagle Court of Honor

An Eagle Court of Honor was convened at 3:30 pm on May 25, 2008, at the United Christian Parish Church in Reston, Virginia, for three scouts who earned the Eagle rank. These scouts are Ryan G., Ryan H., and Dan R. Each scout had a very interesting display of photos and memorabilia relating to key events on his trail to Eagle.

Farm Campout '08

The May campout for Troop 1970 scouts and scouters was on a farm located on the outskirts of Winchester, VA, about 70 miles from Reston. A subset of the 22 scouts on the campout were working on satisfying the requirements for a merit badge in Animal Science, including a visit to a farm where goats (or sheep) are raised.

Wilderness Survival

In December 2007 the troop traveled to Prince William Forest for their "Wilderness Survival" camping weekend. The troop practiced wilderness survival techniques and survival strategies for staying alive in the wilderness. One of the most enjoyable activities was the construction of "debris shelters". Several scouts spent the night sleeping in their shelters. This proved to be one of the most enjoyable camping trips of the year. Photos by Neil Bonner.

Battleship New Jersey

As part of our Military History month, we visited the "Battleship New Jersey" on afternoon of 16 December 2006. As the sun began to set we boarded the former BB62 to spend the night on board.

The troop traveled to the US Army Ordnance Museum in Aberdeen, Maryland on 16 December 2006. The weather was a bit cold and we explored the vintage tanks that are displayed outdoors.
