Want to be on TV while you earn achievements for the Weather Merit Badge?

Space is available for a small number of Scouts to visit the Baltimore/Washington NOAA Weather Forecast Office in Sterling, Virginia, on Friday, October 17, 2008, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Montgomery County schools are closed on Oct. 17. This is also a great opportunity for home-schooled Scouts throughout the National Capital Area Council. The local Fox-5 news crew will be at the Forecast Office previewing that weekend’s open house activities and we’d like to have Scouts in uniform present for the live TV broadcast.

While you are there, you will talk to a meteorologist, learn about weather careers, learn about local dangerous weather, tour the facility – including the Forecast Operations Center and the state-of-the-art testing lab (which includes a heating chamber, a cooling chamber, and a wind tunnel). You will also help launch a weather balloon.

Troops and Packs also are welcome to come out on Saturday or Sunday (10/18-10/19) for the open house to work on weather achievements! For more information, and to reserve a spot for October 17th, contact: susan.buchanan@noaa.gov.
