Troop gets new website
The Troop committee has been busy this summer. Vice Chairman (Finance) Neil Bonner has built a new Troop website. The technology is based on WordPress. Most people associated WordPress with blogging software but recent enhancements to the WordPress system has made it a fully functional web content management system.
This means that several adult leaders can perform updates directly themselves without any assistance from a “webmaster”. Power to the people! Leaders can also directly update the online calendar as new meetings and activities crop up.
The website is designed to be interactive. That means that you can comment on each article or post and place comments in our photo galleries. Anyone wishing to comment must first register on our website. Don’t worry, registration is easy (click here). There is a “widget” on the right-hand side of the page that says, “Participate”, this is where you can log-in and/or register.
As soon as you register you will be sent a default password that you must use to log into our website. After you log in the first time you can change your password to something more easy to remember. Once you log in you can go to your profile and fill in your name and any other items you wish to enter.
Please be mindful that this is a Boy Scout website. Keep the comments positive and clean. Also, for youth protection reasons, please don’t use the first and last names of the scouts. You may comment on a photo and say something like, “Drew looks happy in this picture.” But you would leave out Drew’s last name.
We very much want to hear comments from you about this new website. If you have suggestions on how this website can be improved, we want to hear it!

Congratulations on bringing the website into the 21st century.

As the original webmaster and creator of the Troop 1970 web page back in the 1990s, I say congratulations on bringing the website into the 21st century! I am impressed with the updated troop logo, the easy navigation, the current calendar events, the ability to download needed forms, and current troop activities! It looks like team work will ease the burden of keeping it up. Great job!
